 Welcome to Misty Hollow
 About Us
Nestled in historic
downtown Potsdam, in the building of the old Realto Theater, is Misty Hollow,
the North Country’s largest independent craft shop. Locally owned and operated, Misty Hollow has
been satisfying your craft and hobby needs and much, much more since 1995.
 The Front Window
 Our front window display is
refreshed and changed regularly, and changes with the seasons, the different
themes, and new products of the year. There
are always displays for the holidays and for new trends in the store. The picture is of the window display the year we won the contest for the best holiday window display.
 Maude the Manikin
 Also located in the front
window is our wicker manikin, Maude.
Maude has been with us for several years, and dresses for every
occasion, including the holidays. From
Victorian Lady to executioner, Maude is ready for every season.
 Floor to Ceiling
 Once you walk into Misty
Hollow, you will notice that our store is bursting with intriguing items from floor
to ceiling. As you can see, even the
ceiling is used to display different hanging items throughout the store.
 Gifts
 Tikis, fish bottles, figurines,
door mats made from old tires, fishing and pirate themed signs, incense, rocks
and minerals, candles, books, t-shirts, earrings, brocade purses, and engravable
items can be found near the front of the store, as well as throughout.
 Engravable Gifts
 Engravable gifts include
Zippo lighters, mugs, key chains, frames, albums, keepsakes, jewelry boxes,
flasks, ID bracelets, charm bracelets, dog tags, Medic Alert bracelets and
necklaces, and more.
 Yarn
If, when you walk in, you
go to the left aisle of the store, you will find the beginnings of the yarn
department, a 100 foot yarn display, to be precise. Down the wall extends our yarn department,
shifting from wool to cotton to acrylic yarn.
Some of the yarns you will find include Bernat, Encore, Lopi, sock
yarns, alpaca yarns, Galway, Cascade, Andes, Brown Sheep, Sugar ‘n Cream, crochet
cotton, baby yarns, and novelty yarns.
Our yarns range from basic materials to all kinds of hairy, fuzzy,
fluffy, bumpy, metallic, ribbon-style, and pom pom-style novelties. Samples are hung throughout the yarn aisle,
including not only swatches, but scarves, purses, socks, sweaters, mittens,
hats, and much more.
 Patterns
Hundreds of knitting and crocheting patterns are
available for all size and age groups, including adult, teen, child, and baby
sizes. Patterns for couples or families
are available, as well as novelty patterns such as baskets, muffins, and
stuffed animals. Of course, there are
also patterns for afghans, blankets, purses, mittens, hats, socks, and books on
using one skein or yarn scraps to make a project.
Knitting Needles, Crochet Hooks, & Accessories
 An extensive collection of
knitting needles, crochet hooks, and accessories is available from Susan Bates,
Clover, Brittany, Addi, INOX, Balene II, and more. Whether you prefer plastic, bamboo, wood, or
metal, the correct needle or hook is here.
Knit counters, stitch holders, stitch markers, needle gauges, point
protectors, purse handles, and much more can be found in the accessories
section.
 Helmet Liner Drive
 Unfortunately, soldiers
currently fighting in the Middle East are not provided with helmet liners. The winters there are extremely cold, and
helmet liners are a luxury. Several
years ago, we were approached to support a helmet liner drive, and to date, we
have collected over 1,000 helmet liners for the troops. The Copy Shop in Potsdam has generously
offered to make free copies of the knitted or crocheted patterns for all who
need them, and we periodically have donations of yarn to supply to make the
helmet liners. Helmet liners must be
made of wool of specific camouflage colors.
If you would like to be involved in this project, please contact us, or
get the patterns for knitting or crocheting from our Helmet Liners page. It makes a tremendous difference in the lives
of our soldiers.
 Models
If you had gone to the
right when you entered the store, you would have soon come to the hobby
department. In it, there are many
models, including science fiction, super hero, fantasy, car, and military
models. Submarines, tanks, and planes
are found next to chariots and reenactment figures, along with older
collectable items. Many models are
available that could not possibly fit into our store, so if you have an
interest, please contact us and ask. If
we can find it, we will gladly order the item for you.
 Trains and Train Sets
 We are licensed
distributors for Lionel, MTH, Walthers, Gargraves, and Thomas the Tank Engine. G, O, HO, and N scale trains, buildings,
figures, vehicles, scenery, kits, track, and accessories are available. Subterrain is a new lightweight foam roadbed,
trackbed, and terrain building system that we also carry.
Woodland Scenics and Scratch Building Supplies
 We have an extensive stock
of Midwest Woods, Evergreen Plastics, K+S Metals, Woodland scenics, Floquil,
and Testors paint. Foam core board, plaster
cloth, Badger airbrushes, compressors, parts, paint, thinners, books, and other
materials are also available.
 Store Models
 As with many of our
departments, examples are made. Bob
Porter, our resident art, scrapbooking, and diorama expert, has a diorama in
the front window, and is always working on a model. The models on display are mostly his handiwork.
 Collectables and Memorabilia
 Among the models, as you
could see above, are limited edition and collectable items, including Star Trek,
Robby the Robot, Hulk, Lost in Space, and James Bond models. Additionally, we carry nostalgic memorabilia,
including tin lunchboxes, tin trinket boxes, mugs, mini lunch boxes, and more
decorated with I Love Lucy, Peanuts, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, your favorite super
heroes, Dr. Suess, The Rolling Stones, Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, and more.
